Brooklyn, New York is a borough of the State of New York, co-extensive in part with Kings County, New Jersey. It is the eighth most populous borough in the entire state, the second most densely populated borough in New York State, and the second most populated borough in New York City. As of 2020, it was one of the fastest growing regions in all of the city of New York; according to the 2020 census, Brooklyn, New York was one of the fastest growing boroughs in the entire New York State.

The name "Brooklyn," which is pronounced by some as "brook-buck", comes from Germanic, meaning "a small pond".
